FOSSILS - NATURAL ART

Human history dates back some 100,000 years, a miniscule amount of time when compared to the 4,500 million years that our world has existed. Very simple fossils recently found in Australia, date back some 3,400 million years, but complex animals appear around 600 million years ago.

The word fossil comes from the latin "fossilis" which means "dug up". Following death, the creatures hard parts remain, and compaction of the sediments locks them into the ground. Percolating mineral water often alters their composition, and movement of the earth, along with erosion, exposes part of the fossil to be found and carefully excavated.

Preparation of fossils from a piece of rock takes hundreds, and sometimes thousands of hours of painstaking work to reveal the beauty of the fossil within. The examples of "FOSSIL ART" for sale prove just how worthwhile this work is.

Currently fossils are incredibly undervalued, and with more and more restrictions coming into force, banning collection from excavation sites, and export bans being introduced by many countries, they can only increase in value over the coming years.

There are very few purveyors of "FOSSIL ART", but when such a piece is purchased, you are buying a finite resource, a creature frozen in time, a marvel of the natural world.
